MHPS training for case managers
This CPD accredited one-day course is led by David Scott, an experienced human resources director who has conducted a wide range of independent investigations and reviews, including a number of MHPS investigations.
The training will introduce participants to the principles and processes set out in the NHS’s framework for Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS) in the modern NHS. It will enable them to commission and manage formal investigations under the MHPS framework, or under any appropriate independent sector equivalent.
This in-depth course explores the extensive knowledge and skills required in the role of Case Manager, including the wide-ranging considerations when commissioning and managing an investigation and its outcomes.
It also covers the origin of performance concerns in healthcare and what causes a formal investigation to take place, with each stage including an opportunity for discussion and interaction to ensure each element has been understood thoroughly.
Who should attend this course?
The course is designed specifically for senior clinicians or managers who will act as Case Manager in formal investigations into doctors’ and dentists’ performance concerns.
It is relevant to all UK healthcare organisations in the public (NHS) and independent sectors for those looking to develop awareness and knowledge of the responsibilities required for this role.
If you are interested in learning about the role of Case Manager in the investigation of performance concerns, whether you already have experience of case investigation or case management, this course will equip you to discharge this key role effectively.

“I organised an MHPS Case Manager training session for senior colleagues within various organisations in our ICS. Having used Verita previously, I approached David to provide this educational programme. The content he designed and delivered impressed all in attendance, we all felt the material was on point, the interactive elements met our needs and David was a knowledgable host. I can highly recommend this course to anyone in need of MHPS training.”

What are the benefits of MHPS training?
Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS) is the NHS framework that helps organisations assess and improve the performance of doctors and dentists. When a formal MHPS investigation is commissioned, all those involved need a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, and the demands the investigation will place on them.
Effective doctor performance management is vital for delivering high-quality patient care. Creating a supportive environment and addressing the unique challenges associated with their role and clinical assessments can foster positive working relationships and optimise performance.
MHPS cases are often assigned to inexperienced managers or to fellow doctors, who might never have had to investigate colleagues before.
By attending Verita’s Case Manager Training Course, those involved with investigations under the MHPS framework can enhance their skills, knowledge, and effectiveness, ultimately contributing to the goal of ensuring high-quality patient care through effective doctor performance management.
Why choose Verita for MHPS Case Manager Training?
