Workplace Investigation Training Course
COURSE:
Workplace Investigation Training Course
DURATION:
1/2 Day

Things can go wrong in any workplace, and our CPD-accredited workplace investigation training course will help organisations deliver fair and robust investigations to address workplace issues.
Although there is no statutory or legal obligation on an employer to conduct investigations, it is best practice to do so. The key guidance for employers is published by the Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service. Any employer that fails to follow their guidance on conducting workplace investigations will leave themselves open to criticism by employees, representatives and Employment Tribunals if cases are badly handled.
Our workplace investigation course has been designed with the ACAS guidance in mind. It builds on our long experience of investigating workplace issues, particularly those that have already gone wrong. The course is delivered by a highly experienced HR director. The course will enable your organisation to develop investigators’ knowledge and skills to ensure a fair and consistent approach to investigations.
Course duration and delivery
The workplace investigation course is currently a half-day session that can be delivered remotely or in person, depending on the client’s needs. For in-house work teams, the course can be adapted to use realistic case studies or simulations.
The course covers
- the role and responsibilities of commissioners and investigators
- how to draft good terms of reference
- understanding the investigative process
- how to select the investigator or the investigation team
- the types of evidence, and how to gather it
- how to ask the best questions
- understanding bias in investigations
- writing reliable investigation reports

“Thank you for an excellent session yesterday. Informative and helpful, backed by a wealth of practical experience; just what we wanted and needed. Everyone came up to me afterwards to say how much they had enjoyed and appreciated it.”

What are the benefits of Workplace Investigation training?
Workplace investigation training is of great value to any organisation that wants to create a safe, positive, and productive work environment. Using our extensive experience as a workplace investigator we appreciate just how important a well conducted investigation can be to enable organisations to minimise risks, resolve issues effectively, and promote a culture of compliance and integrity.
Conducting a workplace investigation can be complex, and the employer has many obligations, such as ensuring it is fair and confidential, that any relevant internal policies are followed, that as much evidence and information is gathered as possible to support informed decision-making, and that the process is not designed to prove guilt but to establish full facts.
At Verita, our training course help you understand what this means in practice, how to write reports, and how you can ensure compliance with the Acas Code of Practice on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures to minimise the risk of an uplift in Tribunal awards for procedural unfairness.
The course is suitable for line managers and HR advisors who are involved in the management of workplace investigations. Anyone about to start their first workplace investigation would benefit from the course. Although no prior experience is necessary, participants should have an understanding of their own organisation’s approach to handling workplace issues.
