Investigations & Reviews
Our investigations and reviews come in all shapes and sizes and cover a wide variety of regulated organisations, from small desktop reviews to large, complex investigations that involve multiple interviewees. One investigation may focus on the specialised conduct and capability of an individual while another may investigate allegations made about an organisation in the media.
Why choose Verita to conduct your investigation?
What sets us apart is the rigour with which we carry out investigations and reviews based on an operating process that is widely respected for its thoroughness and our years of experience. Safeguards include a written brief to clients and a meticulous, staged approach including detailed checking and challenging by our in-house team of experts. Each investigation is closed with a debriefing and the incorporation of our learning and outcomes into our diagnostic tools. This forms the basis of our investigation reviews.
Our investigative experience
Some of our areas of expertise include major incidents, organisational failure, complex complaints, governance, compliance, operational performance, providing review support and HR concerns such as bullying, whistleblowing and general grievances.
Investigations and reviews are always led by a senior staff member or a senior associate, so you can be assured that everything will be handled with due care and thoroughness. The supporting team will be made up of experienced staff members, including those from our administrative team, while tasks like interview transcribing and technical support will be provided by specialist contractors. If your organisation is part of a niche sector or requires a specialist approach, subject matter experts will be added to the team as and when they are needed.
Verita have carried out many high profile investigations in healthcare. A recent example is our investigation into the governance of the paediatric oncology service at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust following the conviction and imprisonment of Myles Bradbury. The report has been discussed at a number of high profile learning events organised by NHS England.
Our work in the charity sector includes investigations into organisations caring for vulnerable people, and we are well versed in investigating and reporting on serious complaints.
We have recently completed an investigation into Yarl’s Wood immigration removal centre for the board of Serco Plc following serious allegations in broadcast reports by Channel 4 news. Serco published this report in January 2016 and held a breakfast briefing in the House of Commons for MPs and members of the House of Lords to disseminate our findings and conclusions.
In 2014 Secretary of State for Education asked us to oversee and assure the investigations carried out into the activities of Jimmy Savile in schools and children’s homes. This included producing a ‘lessons learned’ report.
