Healthcare associated infections
This intensive one-day course shows participants how they can use the tools and techniques of systematic incident investigation, including root cause analysis, to understand the likely causative and contributory factors in outbreaks of MRSA and Clostridium difficile infection. Participants learn how to use the tools and techniques in real time (while the infection is present) and after an outbreak has been identified. They also learn how they can use this understanding to put in place timely and effective solutions to reduce the likelihood of subsequent outbreaks.
The course covers the six key stages of the RCA process used for investigating the causes of healthcare associated infections:
- reporting the outbreak
- mapping information to identify problems
- analysing data
- developing recommendations
- implementing solutions
- evaluation.
