Interviewing witnesses is a major part of most investigations. Verita's practical course helps people develop their skills in this crucial area.

Interview skills training

Gathering first-hand evidence from witnesses is a vital component of most investigations and reviews. Yet interviewing can be a daunting prospect even for experienced investigators.

This half-day training course provides a step-by-step approach on how to secure the best account of events from an interviewee. Participants learn to recognise the skills required to undertake a successful interview, and how these skills are used within a cognitive model of interviewing.

In particular, course participants learn:

  • the four key skills that contribute to the success of an interview
  • techniques to assist with active listening
  • questions and questioning styles that are helpful and unhelpful in an interview
  • the structure of a successful interview.
