Primary care Concerns about practitioners - whether raised by colleagues or patients - need to be reviewed thoroughly and with sensitivity.

Primary care

Verita now offers two services to PCTs and PCT clusters. The first is a diagnostic and advice service for PCTs concerned about the performance of individual GPs or practices. In most cases where concerns arise, the National Clinical Assessment Service requires a local investigation. Our offer enables PCTs to ascertain whether ‘there is a case to answer'. This new service is run in conjunction with CHEC, a specialist primary care education centre that has reviewed the quality of clinical care of over 100 general practices.

The other service, particularly relevant in the current climate of change and uncertainty, is designed to support PCTs in dealing with complaints. We can offer one or a combination of the following services:

  • support for local staff dealing with complaints about GPs
  • a quality assurance service to review complaint reports before they are submitted to the complainants
  • undertaking investigations into complex or particularly serious complaints.
