Verita provides three types of service: investigations, reviews and inquiries; corporate governance assessment; and training.
Verita's services
Investigations, reviews and inquiries
Verita undertakes and project manages investigations, reviews and inquiries in four main areas:
- patient safety and clinical risk
- safeguarding patients and service users
- mental health
- corporate governance and performance.
Corporate governance assessment and 'pre-audit' checks
In addition to our investigative work, we work with organisations to minimise the risk of something going wrong in the first place. We do this by reviewing governance arrangements and systems to safeguard service users, and pinpointing areas that need strengthening. We also act as a ‘critical friend' to help organisations prepare for inspection or investigation by bodies such as the Care Quality Commission or Ofsted. Verita has published a detailed brief on corporate governance and how most untoward incidents can be traced back to poor systems.
Training
Verita provides a range of training courses on conducting investigations and reviews and how to best to learn from them. We also work in partnership with healthcare lawyers Capsticks to train NHS managers to comply with the latest guidelines on handling staff conduct, competence and ill-health issues.
Fixed-price offers
Verita has introduced a range of fixed-price offers for proactive governance reviews in areas that are recognised as high-risk and where claims against the NHS are high. These include:- obstetrics and gynaecology services
- accident and emergency services
- acute paediatric services
- general practice
- and medical devices reviews.
We have also launched a fixed-price review service for individual management reviews for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
