A London council has commissioned Verita to investigate a complaint against one of its high-profile members.
Councillor complaint
The councillor is alleged to have broken the Members' Code of Conduct and failed to follow a strict protocol that sets out councillors' obligations to act impartially when considering applications for planning permission.
Barry Morris, Verita partner, explains the background: "These sorts of investigations need to be dealt with quickly to avoid them spiralling out of control. The council wanted an independent investigation and knew it could trust us to complete a thorough investigation to a tight deadline."
The investigation was commissioned by the council's head of legal services.
