Professor Dame Joan Higgins
Professor Dame Joan Higgins' distinguished career in the health and social policy arena spans nearly 40 years. She has published numerous books and articles on health policy, social policy and health service management, including inquiries into failures in health care and social services. Dame Joan chairs the NHS Litigation Authority and the Department of Health's Patient Information Advisory Group as well as being a member of the Queen's Counsel Selection Panel and the National Information Governance Board. She is an honorary fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine and of the Institute of Health Record and Management, and professor emerita of health policy at the University of Manchester. Joan became a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2007 in recognition of her contribution to healthcare.
