Mary Walker
Mary is a social care consultant with extensive high-level experience in the operational and strategic management of social services for adults and children, notably in performance assessment, commissioning and development. For Verita she has acted as project manager for three major mental health homicide inquiries, including the
John Barrett inquiry. Mary also chaired a
domestic homicide review, published by West Berkshire Safer Communities Partnership in November 2008 which has been acclaimed as setting the "
gold standard in terms of its detailed appreciation of the complex issues in domestic violence cases" by Neil Websdale, professor of criminology and adviser to the National Domestic Violence Fatality Review Initiative. Mary has substantial experience of operational management and performance measurement of child protection services in local authorities. She has worked for Verita on a number of serious case reviews including one involving the
sexual abuse of children with learning difficulties,
the case of Baby P, and a review of two children subjected to sustained abuse by their parents while on the child protection register.
