Jane Held is the former director of social services for the London Borough of Camden and has over 30 years’ experience of working in social services at senior level. Her work encompasses a range of projects relating to children’s policy where she has built a national profile for her work in safeguarding practice, strategy and policy. Nationally she has worked for a range of public sector bodies including the Local Government Association, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the Improvement and Development Agency and Commission for Social Care Inspection (now the Care Quality Commission). Jane is the operation lead for the Narrowing the Gap Programme, a DCSF-sponsored initiative designed to narrow the gap between vulnerable children and their peers. She is vice chair of the National Children’s Bureau and the independent chair of Leeds Safeguarding Children Board.
